What is Powder Brows?
Ombre powder brows, also known as powder or shading brows, is a semi-permanent cosmetic eyebrow technique. It involves the application of pigment to create a soft, gradual gradient effect on the eyebrows. Unlike nano brows, which mimics individual hair strokes, ombre powder brows use a specialized machine or manual shading technique to achieve a more filled-in and powdered look. This method is ideal for individuals seeking a bolder, defined, and longer-lasting eyebrow appearance, resembling the look of well-groomed, makeup-enhanced brows.
What is Nano Brows?
Nano brows is a modern semi-permanent eyebrow enhancement technique. It involves the use of a specialized nano needle and a digital machine to deposit pigment into the upper layers of the skin, creating fine, precise, and natural-looking hair-like strokes. Nano brows are similar to microblading but offer even more precision and control, making it an excellent choice for individuals with thin or sparse eyebrows. This method results in finely detailed and realistic eyebrow enhancements that can last for an extended period.
What is Combination Brows?
Combination brows, also known as combo brows, refer to a semi-permanent eyebrow enhancement technique that combines elements of both Nano Brows and Ombre Powder Shading.
In this method, your permanent makeup artist uses a handheld device to create realistic hair-like strokes in the front part of the eyebrow and then applies shading techniques toward the tail end of the brow. This combination results in a balanced, natural-looking, and defined eyebrow appearance.
What can I expect during healing?
What you will notice in the next 7-10 days:
• Redness is normal for the first few days. To relieve the swelling, you can ice the area with soft gel ice packs.
• Slight stinging sensation in the first few days is also normal.
• Eyebrows will start to form scabs and they might look dark and thick. As the skin heals, the scabs will fall off in random pieces throughout the brow and might look patchy throughout the week.
• Flaking and crusting of the skin may occur.
• The colour will fade approximately 30% - 50% when the scabs fall off. This is completely normal. Do not feel discouraged if the fading is more than you expected. The colour will become darker 1-2 weeks after ALL the scabs fall off. The size of the brows will also reduce by 1-2mm.
Is Permanent Makeup... Permanent?
Yes… and no.
There’s often debate in the industry with some artists referring to it as semi-permanent, while others consider it permanent. The truth is, it falls somewhere in between.
Permanent makeup is designed to be long-lasting, but not always truly permanent in the traditional sense. For some individuals, there may always be a soft shadow or trace of pigment remaining in the skin. For others, it can fade significantly over time and may appear to fully disappear.
That said, I always approach it as permanent when consulting with clients. It’s important to be cautious, as results can’t always be fully removed and may require correction or removal if preferences change.
Factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and sun exposure all play a role in how the pigment fades. This is why maintenance appointments are recommended to keep the results looking fresh, balanced, and intentional.
What is the 5 to 12 week touch-up, and do I need it?
The 5 to 12 week touch-up is a follow-up appointment after your initial permanent makeup session. It allows us to assess how your skin has healed and make any adjustments to the shape, color, or overall result.
This appointment is completely optional. Some clients are happy with their healed results and choose not to return, while others may want to enhance their results. Whether that means adding more depth, improving retention, or creating a bolder, more defined look.
That said, many clients do benefit from a touch-up, as healing can be unpredictable and small refinements can make a big difference in the final outcome.
What is the 1 to 2 your annual touch-up?
The 1 to 2 year annual touch-up is a maintenance appointment for existing permanent makeup clients. It’s designed to refresh your brows by enhancing the color, redefining the shape, and restoring overall definition as your pigment naturally fades over time.
This service is ideal for clients who still have visible pigment and are happy with their current brow shape and style.
This appointment is not suitable for clients looking to change their brow shape or brow style, or for brows that have faded significantly and require a full redesign. In these cases, a New Permanent Brow Treatment should be booked instead.
Am I a good candidate for Permanent Makeup?
Unfortunately, some medical conditions can restrict clients from receiving permanent makeup.
PMU contraindications include but are not limited to the following:
Accutane/Retin-A: Individuals who have been taking acne medications such as Accutane or Retin-A within the last 6 months have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. It’s very important that they wait at least 6 months before tattooing the skin. Similarly, Retinol and Vitamin A users should discontinue usage one month prior to their procedure.
Latisse: Eyelash and eyebrow growth serum bring extra circulation (aka blood flow) to the area resulting in the growth of more hair/lashes. If you have been using Latisse or any other eyelash or eyebrow growth conditioners, the skin in that area is in a hypersensitive state and will bleed easily. These products should be discontinued at least 3-6 months prior to the eyebrow procedure.
Medical Conditions:
· Hemophilia or a heart condition, it is not recommended that they get any form of PMU done. People who have heart issues often are on medications that thin the blood which will cause excessive bleeding and lead to poor results. Always consult with your physician prior to the appointment.
· If you have high blood pressure, you may be more prone to bleeding which may result in poor colour retention. Always consult with your physician prior to the appointment.
· Diabetic clients who are insulin dependent often do not heal well and may be at a heightened risk for infection. Please consult with your physician prior to the appointment.
Other Contraindications:
- Pregnant or Breast-feeding
- Allergic to Lidocaine
- Viral infections and/or diseases
- Epilepsy
- Had an organ transplant
- Skin Cancer
- Cosmetic surgery/procedure
