Post-Care Instructions

Aftercare (with Tagederm Pads):

  • Remove the Tegaderm Pads first thing in the morning and take a shower.

  • Clean the area by allowing water to flow over them. You may use a mild soap and your hands to gently wash them.

  • When you step out of the shower, you may use a clean towel to gently pat dry around the tattoo. Leave the tattoo wet and moist and allow to air dry for 3-5 minutes.

  • Place a new Tagerderm bandage over the tattoo. These will stay on for 1 week (7 days).

  • Once the bandage is on, you can shower and get them wet. Just don't submerge them.

  • When it comes time to remove the second bandage(s) (after 7 days), wash the tattoo with soap and water.

  • When you finished showering and washing them, it's important that you stay topless for 45 minutes to an hour before getting dressed. This allows the skin to completely dry out. After the hour, you may wear a loose fitting bra (no pads, no ointment) and get dressed.

  • Try not to rub or pick at the tattoo.

  • Avoid sweating.

  • Do not submerge in any type of water for 10 days. (ex: hot tubs, swimming pools, bathtub, ocean, etc. )

Aftercare (Non-Adhesive):

  • Remove the pads that were placed on you during your appointment first thing in the morning while in the shower. Allow the pads to get wet as this will ensure they fall off without pulling any of your colour out.

  • Rinse the tattoos with a gently soap and warm water. Once out of the shower, using a clean towel, gently pat around the tattoo and allow the tattoo to air dry for 3-5 minutes.

  • Use a clean q-tip to apply a dime size amount of Aquaphor to each areola.

  • Apply a new, non-stick pad on each area.

  • You will need a loose-fitting brad to hold pads in place. Wear theses pads until the following morning and repeat these steps for 2 more mornings.

  • One the final day, after cleaning your areola's in the shower, please sit topless for 1 hour. This allows the skin to completely dry out. After the hour, you may wear a loose fitting bra (no pads, no ointment) and get dressed.

  • During the first week, try not to rub or pick at the tattoo.

  • Avoid sweating.

  • Do not submerge in any type of water for 10 days. (ex: hot tubs, swimming pools, bathtub, ocean, etc. )

What to Expect During Healing and other Facts

  • There is no down time with this treatment and you may return to work immediately.

  • You can expect some swelling and redness immediately after the treatment which may last a few days.

  • It is normal for the colour to look dark at the beginning - this will fade by 10-30% and may take up to 30 days. A touchup session may be needed in 6 weeks depending on healed results.

  • Please DO NOT remove or pick at any scabbing.  Removing them prematurely before they are ready to fall off will result in patchy areas.

  • You will have a scab that forms on your areola’s during the first week of healing. This is very normal.  Once scab has fallen off on its own, you may begin applying a gently lotion to help relieve the dryness that will follow for the next two to three weeks.
